Statement.

Paul Klee said, “Art is serious play.” I agree half-heartedly.

Picasso said, “No painting is not made to decorate houses. It is a weapon, offensive and defensive war against the enemy.” Again I agree half-heartedly.

It is my current position as an artist today to uphold the realities of both of these quotes. It is not enough for artists to dwell on the formalities of form, artists of today should be held responsible for asking critical questions about our society. My art is a juggling of disclosure of history and the ambiguity of intent. My techniques are akin to the art of the outsider, the na•ve, the child and the uneducated. I find freedom in these approaches, not restriction. To paint like a child has been my aim all along, to learn and forget at the same time has been the optimal paradox.
